Shiloh Shepherd Dog Breed

The Shiloh Shepherd was bred by a lady (that is unknown at this time), which has been breeding German Shepherd Dogs since the 1960's. The Shiloh Shepherd is rather similar to that of the German Shepherd except it is bigger, has a warmer and sounder temperament, and is said to have better hips. The Shiloh Shepherd is not all that common, however does make a good companion dog for many different homes. Group: Herding; Color: Solid black and tan / grayish undertone

Shiloh Shepherd Breed Character

The Shiloh Shepherd has somewhat of a fearless temperament making them a great guard dog, however they are prone to dominance issues so proper training is a must. This breed is a joy to train and learns very quickly. This breed is energetic, friendly, and a joy to be around. The Shiloh Shepherd retains much of the temperament of the German Shepherd, however has a more even temperament and should never be shy nor aggressive in any way.

Shiloh Shepherd Breed Temperament

The Shiloh Shepherd can be very protective of his territory and owner, so proper handling is very important. This breed is not recommended for the average owner, however they do make wonderful companions. An experienced handler is a must for this protective and somewhat dominant breed. Shiloh Shepherds can do well around children if properly socialized or raised around them, but should not be trusted around infants and terribly small children. They can also do well around other animals, providing they have been socialized properly at an early age.

Shiloh Shepherd Breed Training

Highly intelligent and eager to please, the Shiloh Shepherd however does require a dominant and firm owner. Dominance issues could arise if not properly handled. This breed does amazingly well in obedience. Very firm handling is a must to avoid any aggression problems or dominance difficulties. The Shiloh Shepherd does very well in obedience trials as well as agility if given the correct handling and training. Obedience classes should be given at an early age.

Shiloh Shepherd Breed Activity

The Shiloh Shepherd is a large breed that requires a lot of exercise to remain healthy and active. A large yard is recommended, but will do okay with an average sized yard. Shiloh Shepherds love long walks and should be given at least two per day. This breed also loves a nice, brisk jog. The Shiloh Shepherd should have at least an hour and a half of exercise per day if he is to retain his wonderful power and muscles.
